Part 2- Meet the Tam CrossFit Games Open Participants

Part 2

A lot has happened since Part 1… Two more Games Open WOD’s  have been completed, many hands have been torn, WOD’s have been crushed and the TCF battle cry has almost been perfected. Tamalpais CrossFit squeezed in to 23rd place in the Open and we are plotting our game plan for Regionals (just waiting for the official invitation from CF HQ). Meet the rest of the participants below. Each and every person contributed so much and we can’t wait until next year to do it again!!

RYAN HUTFLESS
ryanHow long have you been CrossFitting for? 7 Months
Favorite CrossFit move? The Tam CrossFit battle-cry followed by leaping lunge into “See you at the top” hand sign maneuver.
Favorite Games WOD thus far? All in which we did not have to go overhead
What is the best part of participating in this event? Witnessing the awesome athletes and coaches achieve things that they thought impossible.
How has this experience affected your training? Reveals the many weaknesses in my game and makes me want to work harder.
What have you learned about yourself? I have a lot to learn! And I perform four to seven reps better while listening to gangsta rap.

BRIAN BYERS
brianHow long have you been CrossFitting for? 1.5 years
Favorite CrossFit move? Over Head Squats
Favorite Games WOD thus far? The 11.2 WOD of 15 Min AMRAP- Deadlift, Push Up and Box Jump
What is the best part of participating in this event? the people…..
How has this experience affected your training? It has made me push myself harder than before
What have you learned about yourself? Being strong does not mean you are fit.

TOMMY MORAN
tommyHow long have you been CrossFitting for? 2 moths
Favorite CrossFit move? Over Head Squats because I am so horrible at them.
Favorite Games WOD thus far? The 11.2 WOD of 15 Min AMRAP- Deadlift, Push Up and Box Jump
What is the best part of participating in this event? Having the combination of camaraderie and competition back in my life.
How has this experience affected your training? When I was younger I use to play sports and I found that passion that I had lost.
What have you learned about yourself? I am not nearly as athletic as I thought I was but I love the challenge of leaning the new moves.

KELSI GILBERT
kelsiHow long have you been CrossFitting for? 2 Years
Favorite CrossFit move? Clean
Favorite Games WOD thus far? 11.1- 5 min AMRAP of 30 Double Unders and 15 Snatch @ 55#
What is the best part of participating in this event? The anticipation of the next workout and if you are prepared enough to complete it. Also, being able to see where you stand not only in your Region but in the entire CrossFit Community/World is really cool.
How has this experience affected your training? I’ve learned what skills/weights (and scores) are essential to be an Elite/Games Competitor, so I know what I need to work on now to get there.
What have you learned about yourself? If I allow myself to get in the “suck” of the workout, that is actually where I do best and push the hardest, it’s just allowing myself to get there that is the hard part.

MELISSA MARICICH
melissaHow long have you been CrossFitting for? 8 Months
Favorite CrossFit move? Pull Ups
Favorite Games WOD thus far? The 11.6 WOD of 7 Min AMRAP- 3-6-9-12, ect 65# Thrusters & Pull Ups
What is the best part of participating in this event? The best part about participating in this even is watching my fellow teammates cheering me on. With their support, I feel like I can push myself harder.
How has this experience affected your training?I learned a lot about planning and  preparation. Modifying workouts, eating healthy, and resting so you can preform your best is crucial.
What have you learned about yourself? I’m a lot stronger than I thought I was- physically and mentally.  I would travel a lot for work and  would have one day to prepare! I always learned the strength of a team and how everyone wants what’s best for our fellow cross-fitters.
