With his whiskers singed and his foot pads burned, ash-covered Sushi was the first fire victim to arrive at Sonoma Humane Society. His family was out of town when the fires started. When they learned from neighbors that their home had been completely destroyed, they assumed the worst for their cat. Thankfully, Sushi was micro-chipped and we were able to reach them. They are relieved to know that their beloved tabby is safe and receiving medical care and lots of love until they can be reunited later this week. He’s healing well, making biscuits and bolstering morale with his quirky personality.

It’s moments like this where we humans can begin to heal too. For the last week and a half, our community has endured an unprecedented disaster. As our collective loss mounts – loss of human and animal life, loss of property, loss of “normal” – we are faced with so much heartbreak. Yet what emerges through the smoke, fear and exhaustion is the profound sense of hope that comes from our community joining together.

We will have a special WOD today. You can place your donation in the jar- cash or checks for the Sonoma Humane Society. We are also happy to charge your account if that is easiest for you. You can also donate directly to SHS- choose Nor-Cal Fire here: https://shsoc.ejoinme.org/donate
